Kimberlea Kressal
Playwright and director Kimberlea Kressal noted
a void in the world of musical theater and is currently working to fill it: “There’s a real lack of musical theatre songs out there about dildos, pomade and tofu,” says Kressal. This June, she will direct a staged reading
of The Lesbian Love Octagon, her original musical comedy about dyke drama, at WOW Café Theater. In collaboration with Will Larche, Kressal has spent eight years creating the musical journey of Sue, a less-than-butch dyke with a broken heart, as she tries to cope with losing her girlfriend to her ex-girlfriend. This summer Kressal will also direct The Ladies Aide Society, a piece she conceived and co-authored
with Wreckio Ensemble. Kressal was granted
a Chashama Performing Arts Residency for the show, and toured with it to Dublin, Ireland. This June, it will be presented as part of the international art show, No Soul For Sale. -KW
