100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Melissa Scott

Melissa Scott, also known as DJ M, has taken the lesbian community by storm, offering some of the nation’s freshest entertainment for women. DJ M learned the language of club promotions early in life. Hailing from Augusta, Georgia by way of Baltimore, Maryland, her father has successfully owned and operated nightclubs in Augusta since her childhood. “I remember sneaking into strip clubs and taking liquor inventory at age nine,” she said, “ I’ve been motivated by my family’s business of club ownership and promotions.” Now known for her progressive entertainment ventures, DJ M has become one of Georgia’s premiere DJs and event promoters and launched her own promotion business, Traxx Girls Inc. Her “Traxx record” of seamless events has garnered her invitations to produce in New York, St. Louis, New Orleans, Las Vegas and Miami. And DJ M won’t stop there. She is ready to bring innovative women’s events to all corners of the nation. -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
