100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Melanie Cain & Erika Cunha

Inspired by their multiple trips to Brazil, Erika Cunha and Melanie Cain founded Green Roots Travel in 2008. Cunha, who was born and raised in Brazil, enjoyed taking friends on excursions to her home country. “I wanted to share my culture and create exciting and meaningful journeys,” she says. Specializing in highly-individualized itineraries, they get to know their clients before creating their travel experiences. “Our custom designed vacations combine the perfect amount of culture, nature, adventure and relaxation,” Cain says. In addition to planning their guests’ perfect Brazilian adventure, the Florida-based couple is also environmentally conscious. As Cunha put it, “we want to grow a sustainable travel company that has minimal impact on the environment and gives back to the communities we visit.” -CB

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
