100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Shana Fried

DJ, attorney, and event planner equals *snapshot*! Upon moving to New York, Shana Fried immediately became
a part of the local queer club scene. She began spinning records at clubs like Meow Mix and Girlsroom. In March 2004, she created *snapshot*, with Ellie “The Gaysha” Conant and Sabrina Hayley, a weekly mixed queer party which provides a unique space for LGBT folks to showcase their skills in music, art, film, photography or dance. “The queer arts scene seemed to lack a vehicle to elevate musicians and artists beyond local recognition,” said Fried,
“I wanted to help operate that vehicle.” So, in 2007, Fried was admitted to the New York Bar. She has been practicing entertainment, corporate and real estate law with the specific goal of giving career guidance and support to local musicians and artists. -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
