100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Winnie Stachelberg

Winnie Stachelberg, Senior Vice President for External Affairs at the Center for American Progress, has a long history of working for LGBT rights. Prior to her current role at the progressive think tank, she worked for eleven years at Human Rights Campaign first as political director, then as Vice President of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, where she worked on the National Coming Out Program. In a statement on the recent rulings in California, Stachelberg suggests looking forward in the fight for marriage equality: “The California Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Proposition 8 is disappointing, but it should not
distract us from the progress that is being made toward marriage equality. The number of states where same-sex couples can marry has more than doubled since November, and an April poll from ABC News and The Washington Post found more Americans supporting gay marriage than opposing it.” –CB

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
