100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Kerry Eleveld

As the Washington Correspondent for the Advocate, Kerry Eleveld was the only reporter from an LGBT outlet to get a sit-down interview with Barack Obama during the 2008 Presidential Election. “I was euphoric when I first found out about the interview,” Eleveld says, “about 24 hours later, it hit me that I was actually going to have to interview this guy.” Kerry has worked as a journalist in different media for over a decade and cut her teeth editing business journals in South Carolina. Her awards include “Best News Article” in 2006 from the American Veterans for Equal Rights, second place for “Coverage of Election/Politics” from New York Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest and first place in the 2007 National Gay and Lesbian Journalist Association’s “Excellence in News Writing” category. Eleveld regularly offers political commentary to news outlets, including The Associated Press, CNN, MSNBC, and LOGO. -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
