100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Lisa Sherman

“The increase in LGBT visibility in all of television in just the last five years has been tremendous – and history-changing,” Lisa Sherman says, “As storylines featuring gays and lesbians on television have multiplied, so has the understanding of and national support for our
community.” As the Executive Vice President and General Manager of LOGO, Sherman herself is responsible for getting many such storylines out there. Since joining LOGO shortly before it launched in 2005, she has helped put more than 20 original series on the
ai,r including RuPaul’s Drag Race, which originally aired this past February and is the network’s most successful show to date. Under Sherman’s direction, LOGO is now in 39 million homes. She serves on the board of directors of LIFEBeat: The Music Industry Fights AIDS, and is also a board member of God’s Love We Deliver. Last fall, Sherman was honored by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York City for her work at LOGO and her dedication to the LGBT community. -CB
