Yetta Kurland
‘Yetta…Yes!’ is her slogan. A leader in progressive politics and social justice for two decades, Yetta Kurland is an independent thinker and a champion of the underrepresented. Early in her career, she founded Hello World Language Center, an alternative language and culture resource center. She served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where she taught others to teach in the New York public school system. With a long history of activism on a wide range of LGBT and non-LGBT issues, she has fought to empower those around her. As a civil rights attorney, Kurland has worked to defend victims of hate crimes, protect workers against unfair treatment, and to ensure fair play and accountability in New York City agencies. As a tenant rights activist, she has worked to create sustainable and affordable housing solutions for New Yorkers, has represented tenants in eviction proceedings and worked to protect rent-stabilization and rent-control throughout the City. Her experience is being put to good use as Kurland is currently running for City Council in Manhattan’s District 3. -KD
