Charlotte Cooper
A long-time resident of London’s East End, Charlotte Cooper is a journalist, registered psychotherapist, Ph.D candidate in Sociology at the University of Limerick and an internationally known fat activist. Cooper’s writing and activism career began with her creating zines years ago; she eventually published two books, Fat and Proud: The Politics of Size and the novel Cherry. She is also a frequent speaker at fat rights conferences. Somehow, Charlotte finds time to blog at Obesity Timebomb and run with her “chub pride girl gang,” The Chubsters, where her nickname is “The Beefer”. “I am proud to be a fat dyke, and part of a fat lib community that stretches back over 40 years. I guess that moving through the world with such a sensibility is also a form of activism,” she says. -CB
