100 Women We Love Class of 2010

As the first decade of the new millennium comes to an end, we take a moment to celebrate 100 out lesbians who have made the past year one of inspiring change and amazing progress.

Anne Steele

New York City’s Anne Steele is an extraordinary vocalist whose sold-out, New York Times-reviewed show in 2009, Strings Attached , won her both Bistro and MAC awards for Outstanding Female Vocalist. Steele has performed worldwide; most recently as a featured performer on the LGBT family-themed cruises by R Family Vacations. She’s currently producing her first album, also titled Strings Attached . As a femme woman, Steele says she often feels overlooked in the lesbian community—one aspect of the world she wants to help remedy. “I would love to expand the concept that we come in all shapes and sizes and what matters is that we all love women!” Steele says. “As an artist, I [seek] to integrate my audience more. I have a strong gay male and straight following, but would love more women to allow me to expose them to who I am as an artist.” -CB
