Jacqueline Sharlup began her career as a private chef, later turning her dedication to nutritious eating and health-conscious food preparation into the Bayshore, New York restaurant Tula Kitchen. Mixing good food with upscale décor, Tula has become a local favorite. “Tula Kitchen is a hotspot for diverse couples to come and just be themselves,” she says. “The atmosphere provides a sense of unity and camaraderie in Bayshore.” A longtime supporter of the Human Rights Campaign and the Long Island Gay Men’s Chorus, Sharlup will soon open the performance space Tula After Dark to feature crowd-pleasing, community-based events like gay speed dating, magic acts, comedy nights and drag shows. -CB
