100 Women We Love Class of 2010
A Houston, Texas native, Annise Parker has remained close to her roots. She was sworn in as the 61st mayor of Houston in January, becoming only the second woman and first openly gay person to hold that office. She graduated from Rice University and worked for two decades in the oil and gas industry, with 18 of those years spent at the Houston-based Mosbacher Energy Company. For ten years, she co-owned Inklings, a Houston-based independent gay bookstore. Parker was involved in Houston politics for several years prior to becoming mayor, serving six years as a member of the City Council and one six-year term as Houston City Controller. -CB

Sabrina Riddle
Owner of Orson restaurant, bar and lounge in San Francisco; founder and Creative Director of the fashion house Bind; and Chief Creative Officer of dot429, an LGBT professional networking service, Sabrina Riddle wears more hats than most. dot429.com launched this past January and hosts in-person networking events in key cities. Riddle hopes her efforts will bring more LGBT people together. “Being gay is something very powerful—we have a culture and life experience that sets us up to be among the most interesting, creative, compassionate, generous, happy and successful people in the world. I want to spread this gay manifesto and create ways for people to integrate it into their core beliefs and values—by helping them connect, share, engage and experience the power of being gay and live lives that are beyond meaningful.” -CB
