As the first decade of the new millennium comes to an end, we take a moment to celebrate 100 out lesbians who have made the past year one of inspiring change and amazing progress.

Terese Genecco

New York City entertainer Terese Genecco’s many honors include a 2009 MAC Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist and a 2009 OutMusic Award for Outstanding Comedy/ Cabaret Song. She performs with her “Little Big Band” on the last Tuesday of every month at The Iridium Jazz Club in the longest running nightclub act on Broadway, in between headlining at The Great American Music Hall, the Fillmore Jazz Festival, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill and The Peppermill Hotel & Casino in Reno, to name but a few major venues. Genecco sees her art as an opportunity for change. “Using music and comedy, I can subversively convert the heterosexual world, one audience member at a time, into tolerance and acceptance of their other-than-heterosexual brothers and sisters,” she kids. “I’m not solving global warming here! But where would we be as a society without music and the arts? I don’t even want to imagine what that world would look like.” -CB
