100 Women We Love Class of 2010
A Houston, Texas native, Annise Parker has remained close to her roots. She was sworn in as the 61st mayor of Houston in January, becoming only the second woman and first openly gay person to hold that office. She graduated from Rice University and worked for two decades in the oil and gas industry, with 18 of those years spent at the Houston-based Mosbacher Energy Company. For ten years, she co-owned Inklings, a Houston-based independent gay bookstore. Parker was involved in Houston politics for several years prior to becoming mayor, serving six years as a member of the City Council and one six-year term as Houston City Controller. -CB

Jennie McNulty
When not entertaining troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, comedian Jennie McNulty hosts AfterEllen.com’s Jennie McNulty Presents: Walking Funny With… A frequent headliner at clubs throughout the US and Canada, McNulty has appeared on LOGO’s One Night Stand Up and on both Sweet and Olivia cruises. Back home in Los Angeles, McNulty produces the GOLD! Comedy show and plays for the California Quake, a women’s tackle football team. Physical activity is important to her: “I think many of us are way too sedentary. A simple, brisk walk can do the trick. You know that iconic ‘alien’ picture, the one with the big head and oval eyes? That’s cosmic foreshadowing of the human form. Giant thumbs for texting, a few digits for the keyboard, a big brain and eyes to work at our computers. Come on people, do something. You don’t want to be mistaken for an alien. Although, having Agent Scully chase you down would have its benefits.” -CB
