Yoanne Magris
“My love for food came at early age from my grandmother Eftalia. As a little girl I would sit on the kitchen countertop to listen to her describe her French and Mediterranean cuisine,” remembers chef Yoanne Magris. A culinary prodigy, Magris arrived in the U.S. 12 years ago from her native France to pay her dues in the kitchens of established New York eateries like the Russian Tea Room. She later founded her own catering company and hosted European heads of state, Washington power players, business tycoons and one Dracula-themed event, with a chocolate dessert that “bled” raspberry coulis, in a Transylvanian castle. Today she is the Executive Chef de Cuisine at her own Spanish Harlem café, Yo In Yo Out, which won four stars from the New York Daily News. Says Magris philosophically, “[my path led] from a family dream to a family restaurant.” Don’t miss Yoanne on the upcoming season of the Food Network’s Chopped. -KL
