100 Women We Love Class of 2010
As the first decade of the new millennium comes to an end, we take a moment to celebrate 100 out lesbians who have made the past year one of inspiring change and amazing progress.
Jasper James
An OUTMusic Award-winning underground dance artist, Jasper James’ last single “Rocket” premiered on MTV, while her latest release is a remix of her song “It’s On” by legendary remixer Ralph Falcon. Besides providing the soundtrack for the 2011 Kia Sorrento/NBA commercial, James has performed at major New York venues like Santos’ Party House, the Nokia Theatre and Webster Hall; opened for Debbie Harry and Peaches; and acted in John Cameron Mitchell’s film Shortbus. As an artist, James says she would like to be a catalyst for personal freedom. “To gain the freedom that is being sought by LGBTQ people, we must first be empowered to break the labels that bind us as a community. My desire is to have all those who come into contact with me and my music to think on these things.” -CB
