Mariah Hansen
When LA-based Club Skirts owner Mariah Hanson became a corporate benefactor of the Palm Springs Museum In the early ‘90s, she had one thing on her mind: securing a venue for the biggest celebration that the Dinah Shore Golf Classic had ever seen. Her donation allowed her one cocktail party at the museum. “I think at the end, the museum was horrified,” she laughs. That first bash was the beginning of The Dinah, a major piece of the modern-day Dinah Shore festivities. “It’s not just a party,” she says of the star-studded, corporate-sponsored extravaganza. “It’s become a part of our culture.” Thanks in part to events like The Dinah, corporations are paying close attention to the lesbian market. Each year, queer organizations receive part of The Dinah’s proceeds. Hanson is also a member of Equality California’s board of directors. –LL
