Hats off to the 100 Women We Love, class of 2008 (in no particular order, 'cause we love 'em all!).

k.d. lang

Grammy award winning recording artist k.d. lang has never been shy about her activist streak. She has recorded benefit songs and performed on behalf of HIV/AIDS research, human and animal rights and myriad LGBT causes. While she’s known the world over for her unique sound, lesbians love her unabashed butchness, which stands out in a sea of blonde pop-country stars. lang describes her new album, Watershed, as “a little bit of jazz, a little country, a little of the Ingénue sound, a little Brazilian touch. It really feels like the way I hear music, this mash-up of genres.” Watershed, lang’s first collection of original material since 2000, was written, performed and produced by lang herself. –KL
