Sophia Bush Confirms Love Story With Ashlyn Harris

The 41-year-old comes out as queer and confirms her relationship with former U.S. soccer player Ashlyn Harris.

Sophia Bush laid it all out for the cover of Glamour Magazine. She’s pictured shirtless, with a brown jacket draped over her shoulders, as she details the past two years of her love life for the first time.

In Bush’s essay, written in her own words, the 41-year-old comes out as queer and confirms her relationship with former U.S. soccer player Ashlyn Harris. In October 2023, rumors began swirling about the romance after Bush’s divorce from Grant Hughes, and after Harris’ divorce from Ali after nearly four years of marriage and over a decade together. Naturally, the internet had a field day with speculation and commentary on the salacious nature of the story.

“This time things felt different,” Bush writes of her marriage to Hughes. “Maybe it’s just cold feet, I told myself. Maybe I was too sensitive. Maybe this was the feeling you get when you settle down later in life and have to make space for another person.”

Bush and Harris became close in 2019. Bush says their friendship was an unexpected, but needed, support system that blossomed into something more. (Yes, the timeline feels fuzzy here and the internet is once again questioning Harris’ fidelity to Kreiger at the time.)

“I didn’t expect to find love in this support system. I don’t know how else to say it other than: I didn’t see it until I saw it,” she says.

While Bush reveals she is in love with Harris in her essay, she also took the time to clear up any homewrecker rumors, which started to float around online last year.

“The idea that I left my marriage based on some hysterical rendezvous—that, to be crystal-clear, never happened—rather than having taken over a year to do the most soul crushing work of my life?”, she writes. “Rather than realizing I had to be the most vulnerable I’ve ever been, on a public stage, despite being terrified to my core? It feels brutal.”

While Bush has certainly had to go through the wringer online, it seems to have worked out for her in the end.

“I am so lucky to be here, now. I have real joy. It took me 41 years to get here,” Bush says.
