100 Women We Love 2007

We present to you this year’s selection of 100 out women who have made an impact on the community. Meet the class of 2007.

Reno
“Being a lesbian, for me, has always been related to being part of a counterculture,” says Reno. “Maybe I’m just Peter Pan, but I like being on the outside.” Known for her wildly comedic and boldly political stream-of-consciousness performances, she opened Rebel Without a Pause: Unrestrained Reflections on September 11th at New York experimental theatre company La MaMa only three weeks after the towers fell. The show was then made into a film by Nancy Slavoca, and received a Florence Peace Prize. “We reached places other than the U.S. who thought we were all marching to the same tune—belligerent and reactive,” she reflects. Reno’s career hasn’t slowed down since; she has been commissioned by Lincoln Center, aired her own series on Bravo, and produced an HBO feature film, Reno Finds Her Mom. She just appeared in the plays Spaulding Gray: Stories Left to Tell and Naked Angels, under the direction of
Marisa Tomei. –JK
