Karen Williams
“My first love was and remains my comedy,” says Williams, 54, comedian, humor educator, grandmother, and proprietor of the Cleveland-based International Institute of Humor and Healing Arts—also known as the HaHa Institute. Williams’s private and group workshops promote laughter as a tool to overcoming stress and encouraging “compassion, wisdom, and life force.” Introduced to lesbianism “through the back door of feminism” in the 1970s and with nearly a quarter-century in showbiz, Williams draws from her own past relationships in her one-woman show The Dating Queen, touring throughout 2007. –NS
