Billie Eilish Thought It Was Obvious She’s Queer (It Is!)

Eilish doesn’t exactly believe in the concept of coming out.

We can finally stop with the obsessive speculating (which, although understandable, was kinda weird) — Billie Eilish is out, officially.

The reason she hadn’t come out publicly before? Eilish doesn’t exactly believe in the concept of coming out.

On the red carpet for Variety’s Hitmakers event on December 2, Eilish said “I don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, why can’t we just exist? I’ve been doing this for a long time and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.”

“I’m still scared of ’em,” Eilish added re: girls in the red carpet interview, “but I think they’re pretty.”

Regardless if she believes in the concept of coming out or not, Eilish was excited to have the news go public and had an adorable exchange with another openly gay interviewer. When asked if she had intended to come out (Eilish said she was attracted to women in her cover story for Variety’s Power of Women issue last month), Eilish replied “No I didn’t, but I kinda thought…wasn’t it obvious? I just didn’t realize people didn’t know.”

Eilish continued, “I saw all the articles [and] was like, ‘Oh, I guess I came out today…ok cool.’ But it’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, so it’s cool that they know, but, ooh I’m nervous talking about it…but no, I am for the girls.”

When Eilish admitted she was nervous, the Variety interviewer sweetly interjected “I’m gay, you’re safe.”

You can watch the heartwarming and incredibly gay interaction below.

Later, at Variety’s Hitmakers event, Eilish posed for pictures with Boygenius, really driving the gay thing home — and sending all of the lesbian internet into a tizzy. Welcome home, Billie. We love you!

Unfortunately and understandably, Eilish wasn’t too thrilled with the focus of Variety’s Red Carpet being on her sexuality rather than her music.

Yesterday, she posted this on Instagram.
