These dynamos lead some of America’s most influential nonprofit organizations—they are fighting the good fight and their work enriches our lives in countless ways.

Glennda Testone
Executive Director, New York LGBT Community Center

Glennda Testone has spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector because “giving back to my community and helping other people was how I was raised, and it’s something I love doing. I see the impact we have on people’s lives everyday.” Testone is the executive director of New York’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center, the second largest LGBT center in the world and a leading provider of social service, public policy, educational and cultural programming. Prior to joining the Center in November 2009, she was the President of the Women’s Media Center, providing media and leadership training for some of the progressive movement’s preeminent leaders; and Senior Director of Media Programs for the national Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), directing all of the organization’s work on the regional level, with national and entertainment media, and outreach to communities of color and youth. “I feel very lucky in my life, and having a job that allows me to give everyone the chance to have a good life is the best reward,” Testone says. “Seeing young people gain confidence in themselves and knowing that the skills and connections they gain at the Center will carry them through the rest of their life is priceless. Galvanizing our community to come together to support each other is incredibly rewarding.”
