They were three degrees of separation. New to New York City in the summer of 1998, Cindi Creager joined a friend of a friend for a night out at Rose’s Turn piano bar in the West Village, where that friend’s friend was a singing bartender. Upon arrival, Cindi marched up to the bar and said, “Are you Rainie?” It was none other than Rainie Cole, a cabaret performer—and Cindi’s future love.

Since that fateful night, the two have two shared passions for the arts, sports and making a difference in other people’s lives. Rainie is drawn to Cindi’s “kindness, her ability to make me laugh, her eyes and her smile.” Also, said Rainie, Cindi’s “interpretive dances.” Cindi loves Rainie’s honesty, artistry and integrity, as well as her “gorgeous smile,” she said. “She can light up a room with her effervescence in two seconds flat, and we’re all luckier for that!”

In 18 years together, they have helped each other take better care of their physical, spiritual and financial well-being by eating healthier, integrating meditation into their lives and planning financially. Now, they say, they are more peaceful, physically fit and financially secure. Together, they own CreagerCole Communications LLC, an LGBTQI public relations firm. “More strides to make,” they say, “but we’re on a much more solid footing.”

Ten years into their relationship, the pair got married in front of a cozy fireplace at a Connecticut inn, surrounded by seven of their dearest friends. The most memorable part, they said, “was looking into one another’s eyes, and sharing our vows of love in a warm and intimate setting.”
