At their wedding this past summer, Erica surprised Desiree “with a flash-mob style dance with her bridal party.”

“For those who know Erica, she’s a little on the shy side,” Desiree said, “and this was far from her comfort zone, which made me feel so loved and special.”

Both teachers, activists and writers, Erica and Desiree also recently started a photography company, taking shots for LGBTQ individuals and couples “at a low cost.”

“My favorite quality of Desiree’s is her activism,” Erica said. “I love that she has a desire to help any person or group of people that are marginalized and oppressed.”

Similarly, Desiree admires Erica’s passion and worldliness.

“She’s incredibly intuitive, well-read, and most of all, interesting,” Desiree said. “That’s the kind of person I want to spend the rest of my life talking to.”

The couple recently bought their first home together and are busy planning to fill it with children. “Our goal is to provide a loving, nurturing environment for our future family, no matter what that family ends up looking like,” Desiree said. “We hope to raise a family of young activists and socially responsible citizens dedicated to leaving the world a better place than when they came.”
