CUTE LESBIAN PROPOSAL ALERT. Beloved bisexual writer, professor, and editor Roxane Gay is now engaged to her girlfriend Debbie Millman, a lesbian writer, curator, artist, and podcast host.
Millman announced the news in the cutest possible way: with a rhyming Instagram carousel all about their love story. So cute, so gay, so refreshing.
“I met a girl who loves to write and is really into Beyonce,” the carousel reads. “We went on some dates; we fell in love. And now she is my fiancé.”
The carousel included a collage of photos of the couple, plus a shot of their matching engagement rings. Squeal!!!

This news is, honestly, the perfect icing on the cake of a ridiculously cute love story. The couple originally met because Millman pursued Gay to be a guest on her podcast “Design Matters.” Before shooting her shot, she first played the long game by inviting other guests who she knew the Bad Feminist author would be interested in, such as Kima Jones and Thelma Golden.
“It was the first time in my life that I aggressively went after someone,” Millman said at Autostraddle’s A-Camp in 2018.
“And it was the first time in my life that anyone aggressively pursued me,” Gay added.
After finally interviewing Gay for the podcast, Millman asked her crush out on their first official date.
“We talked and I spilled wine on her because I’m so cool and then we went outside and she asked if she could kiss me and then she did,” Gay recalled.
The rest was history, obviously. Gay took to Twitter on Thursday to thank her followers for their outpouring of support: “Ahhh! Yes, I am indeed engaged to @debbiemillman! It is very exciting! Thank you ALL for the kind words and congratulations.”
