Lucky 7: Our Seventh Year in Review

The 2008 elections filled our hearts with hope even while the economic downturn emptied our pockets. We spoke out against corporate greed, fought for our right to marry and shamed those that would hold us down into becoming more tolerant. A crane collapsed in Manhattan; a plane landed in the Hudson River and justice prevailed with the country’s first transgender-related hate crime conviction. Here is a look back at the past year and the events that most affected us.

QQ. NOT JUST FOR CAESAR SALADS ANYMORE

This year saw the longest, weirdest series of food recalls ever. After a nationwide outbreak of salmonella in January, the FDA sent everyone into a total freakout about their groceries and anything even resembling peanut butter got pulled off the shelves. Peanut Corporation of America was widely reviled, and ended up under federal investigation. They finally had to file for bankruptcy after we all gave up and switched to soy nuts.
