100 Women We Love 2007

We present to you this year’s selection of 100 out women who have made an impact on the community. Meet the class of 2007.

Leigh Silverman
“I’ve never felt like ‘Yes, I’ve made it,’” says stage director Silverman. That’s okay, because the rest of us can feel it for her. At 31, Silverman was the youngest person to direct a play on Broadway when, last year, she directed Lisa Kron’s Well. The dilligent director, who’s currently in Los Angeles working with David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) on his latest play, Yellow Face, spends years with a writer perfecting a script. “Lisa and I were developing Well for seven years, and there was never a moment where it seemed we’d go to Broadway.” Silverman confesses, “I still think ‘I can’t believe I’m actually getting to do this’ instead of having to think, ‘Well, I can always go back to Starbucks next summer.’ That is kind of a relief!” –MW
