100 Women We Love 2007

We present to you this year’s selection of 100 out women who have made an impact on the community. Meet the class of 2007.

Aliza Shapiro
The Boston drag scene owes a thing or two to Shapiro. She sacrificed her RISD-educated architecture career to promote bands, sold self-designed vintage ties to keep her production company, Truth Serum, running, and have cash to pay all involved. Now the 38-year-old single dyke (who performs as Heywood Wakefield) produces drag and indie concerts single-handedly from her apartment. “When people say, ‘Oh, you’re the guy with the flyers!’ it’s really annoying,” says the multi-tasker. “No, I’m not only the guy with the flyers. I’m the guy who thought this up, got in touch with the artists and the venues, made it happen, and got people to pay attention.” Shapiro produces hundreds of shows each year, including the amateur drag competition TraniWreck. –MW
