100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Annetta Budhu

As a young girl growing up in British Guyana, Annetta Budhu always knew she “liked girls,” but it wasn’t until she came to New York that she was able to be herself: “I am very thankful for all the gays and lesbians of the Stonewall generation who laid the groundwork for me to live a very free and happy life here in the West Village.” After cutting her teeth on the trading floors of Wall Street, Budhu decided to follow her entrepreneurial spirit and make her own mark on the financial world. She became President of Stock News Now and co-founded Global Desktop, which eventually led her to open her own financial consulting firm. Her latest venture is the creation of RF Lounge, which will serve the gay and lesbian community by providing a venue for local talents to showcase their creativity, as well as a place to relax, unwind and enjoy a cocktail after work. -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
