Garth Fagan Dance celebrates 40 years with two world premieres at the Joyce Theater: Thanks Forty, by the master himself, and Hylozoic, by Fagan’s protégé and longtime principal dancer, Norwood Pennewell, run Nov 9-14. The week of shows also features Fagan classics such as Passion Distanced, a work from1987.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to New York City Center Dec 1-Jan 2. Join Judith Jamison in her final season as artistic director and see the exquisite Ailey dancers in their biggest season yet. Five weeks of special performances include the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis; Revelations at 50 with select performances with Sweet Honey In The Rock; Judith Jamison conducting live musicians and a full choir, featuring soloist Ella Mitchell; and an expanded cast of 50 dancers filling the stage and aisles. Premieres and new productions include works by Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Camille A. Brown, Geoffrey Holder and other repertory favorites.
