America’s Most Captivating Couples 2007

It was difficult to narrow down the entries, but we finally did it–and the result is the year’s most captivating couples! Ranging from a historic preservationist to a superhero to a TV talk show host (times two), it’s great to see so many proud women, not just in love, but spreading that love around and making the world a brighter place. Their stories inspired us, and we know they’ll inspire you, too. Say hello to this year’s sweethearts.

Kathy Kane, otherwise known as Batwoman, began appearing in Batman comics in 1956. Forty years later, with the unveiling of year-long weekly comic, 52, it was revealed that she’s queer. (And you thought your coming-out took forever!) DC Comics’ executive editor, Dan DiDio told Out magazine, “The fact that Batwoman is gay is not a key factor, it’s [simply] who she is.” Batwoman’s ex-girlfriend, we are told, is former policewoman Renee Montoya. We don’t know why these two broke up, but we do know Batwoman still has strong feelings for the ex. She’s punched Renee in the face and taken to stalking her—classic obsessive dyke behavior. The quarreling couple finally shared a kiss in December’s issue #33. Will these two get back together? Who knows? But in Gotham City, anything’s possible.
