FAY CARMONA

An out presence on radio, “Lady Fay” Carmona would never be considered a shrinking violet. The 5′ 11″ DJ got her start at Clear Channel Radio’s WHYI-FM Y-100’s morning show in 2001, but she’s best known for hosting the syndicated Spanish-language program “The Luis Jimenez Show” in New York City on X 96.3 La Mezcla. Dubbed the “Howard Stern of Spanglish Radio,” Jimenez helped foster her strong connection to the gay community—and specifically, the Latino LGBT community—while encouraging her brash, bold style. Now Carmona is embarking on a new challenge: “I want to work in the gay media world, because I want to be me, and continue to show a different [side] of our people,” Carmona says. “I’m fortunate to be able to do what I love the most, which is to engage, collaborate and connect with people from all walks of life. The best part about it? I can get compensated for using ‘my voice’ and hopefully inspire others. In short, I’m blessed!” –KL
