SEIMONE AUGUSTUS

Number 33 on the WNBA franchise Minnesota Lynx, Seimone Augustus was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated for Women when she was only 14, under the headline, “Is she the next Michael Jordan?” During her time at Louisiana State University, Augustus was the two-time Consensus National Player of the Year, and delivered NCAA record-breaking scores. In 2006, she was the number one pick in the WNBA draft and named Rookie of the Year, All-Star and All-WNBA. She won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing as part of the U.S. Women’s Basketball Team. Of what she finds most personally rewarding, Augustus says, “I get to travel around the world, enjoy different cultures, experience different things and people; most importantly, I get to have a positive impact on others’ lives and, at the same time, continue to help the WNBA rise to new heights and gain the respect that we deserve.” –CM
