Jane Velez-Mitchell
The host of HLN’s Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell wears more hats than just that of a veteran television journalist. She’s the author of the recently published Addict Nation: An Intervention for America, as well as an environmentalist, feminist, animal protection advocate, vegan and recovering alcoholic of 16 years. She chronicled her experience with recovery in her bestselling 2009 memoir iWant: My Journey From Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler Honest Life. Velez-Mitchell hopes that her journey toward sobriety and her role as an out celebrity inspires others. “I hope to be part of a chain reaction of honesty,” she says, “joining a growing chorus of out professionals to urge those still in the closet to reveal their true selves by showing there is little to fear and so much to gain.” -SJ
