Why This New Jennifer Beals Video Has Lesbians Freaking Out

This new Lululemon x Ganni ad starring Jennifer Beals sent the sapphic world into a frenzy.

Lesbians look alive. The legend herself, Jennifer Beals, sent sapphics into a frenzy with her appearance in a new Flashdance inspired ad for Lululemon’s collaboration with fashion label Ganni.

The 90-second video features The L Word star Beals and singer and dancer Mette. Lesbian fans online saw the ad and confused it for a trailer for a possible new queer movie. “JENNIFER BEALS IS GOING TO BE THE LEAD IN A NEW WLW MOVIE?!?!” one tweet said, gaining over 9,000 likes. Quickly, people speculated about a possible storyline, hoping Beals and Mette would fall into an age gap romance.

While the ad does feature some longing glances and close, partner dancing, it isn’t necessarily the age gap romance fans were hoping for. Shot in a dance studio, the short film captures Beals and Mette as they engage in a spontaneous dance routine filled with smiling and energy.

The “Joy Is a Power Move” campaign was made to show off the new collection from the clothing brands which features classic 80s dance movie motifs—leopard prints, bold colors and ruffled trims.

In a TikTok posted on Lululemon’s account, Beals and Mette shared what dancing means to them with Beals saying, “I get connected to my spirit and it helps me connect to other people.” In a comment on the video someone wrote, “sorry? Lululemon, ganni and BETTE PORTER?” and the brand responded, “We can’t wait.”

While it certainly wasn’t on our bingo card that Lululemon would give lesbians the gift of a sweaty Bette Porter for International Lesbian Day, we can’t say we’re not grateful.
