The One Tree Hill actress and former professional soccer player quietly said I do to one another in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York in the summer of 2025, surrounded by close family, including Harris’ children, Sloane and Ocean.
The couple revealed the news to Vogue in a story published Wednesday, Sept. 30, which also features an exclusive excerpt from Bush’s forthcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.
And if you were imagining a giant celebrity wedding with hundreds of guests, a dramatic gown change and enough champagne to fill a swimming pool, think again. Bush and Harris opted for something much more intimate and wholesome.

During their private celebration, the family picked flowers from the property and roasted marshmallows together. Harris recalled that the kids were simply running around and enjoying themselves, without the pressure that can sometimes come with a big wedding day.
“It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids,” Harris told Vouge.
Bush remembered the evening just as fondly.
“It was so precious, and zero pressure,” she said. “I will never forget it, and I think wedding days sometimes aren’t like that.”
The low-key celebration was the perfect fit for two women who have spent much of their lives being watched by the public. Bush rose to fame as an actress at just 21 years old, while Harris spent her teenage-and-adulthood playing professional soccer at the highest level. As Bush explained to Vogue, both women know what it means to have pieces of their lives turned into public property.
“When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,” she shared.
In her memoir, Bush also reflects on why she and Harris chose to keep their wedding private at first.
“We chose each other quietly. After so many years of having so much of my life dissected and turned into headlines for people who don’t know me, there was something sacred about letting this belong to us first. Maybe that was why I found myself thinking so often about the stories that had shaped us long before we ever found each other. The stories we inherited. The ones we carried. The ones we hoped—if we were lucky—to live our way into.”

Rather than immediately announcing their marriage to the world, Bush and Harris traveled around the country to tell their friends and family the news in person. Once everyone closest to them knew, Bush said she was ready to stop referring to Harris as simply her “partner.”
“You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife,” Bush told Harris. “And it feels so amazing to say that.”
The marriage reveal comes just weeks before the Oct. 27 release of Bush’s debut memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, which has been nearly a decade in the making.

Bush and Harris were first linked in 2023 and publicly confirmed their relationship in 2024, when Bush came out as queer in her Glamour cover story. The pair have since become prominent LGBTQ+ advocates and both serve on the board of the Human Rights Campaign.
For Harris, making their relationship visible has never been solely about the two of them.
“This conversation is not about Sophia and I. We know the love we share,” Harris told Vogue. “But the visibility piece matters, because there are still kids hiding who don’t feel seen.”
And now, more than a year after quietly becoming wives, Bush and Harris are finally letting the rest of us in on the secret.
And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress will be released Oct. 27 and is available for preorder.
