New York, NY– While an hour may have been lost for daylight savings, Bike New York is gaining an hour for the upcoming 2022 TD Five Boro Bike Tour. In partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), Bike New York announced today that riders in the 2022 Tour will now have an additional hour to enjoy the sights and sounds of all five boroughs. The additional hour marks the Tour’s first significant change in decades, providing an enhanced experience for riders to enjoy the boroughs car free. The extra hour will be built into the beginning of the Tour with starting waves running from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.

The announcement comes as the Tour, which was capped at 20,000 registrants last year and notably delayed until August, will operate at full capacity for the first time since 2019, with 32,000 cyclists riding. Registration for the Sunday, May 1 ride is now open for New Yorkers and visitors as the world reopens and as cycling surges in popularity with thousands of local cyclists hopping on the bike bandwagon. During the height of the pandemic, average weekday cycling ridership was up an estimated 33 percent with shops selling out of bikes and parts. Overall ridership continues to trend upwards.

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is the premier fundraising event for Bike New York, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to empowering New Yorkers to transform their lives and their communities through cycling.
