Over 360,000 New Yorkers are color blind. Those who suffer from color blindness see a world that is gray, dull, washed out and some colors are indistinguishable. That all changed on June 26th at 2pm when five color blind New Yorkers – including a color blind doctor and firefighter – will get to see the world in color for the first time with special EnChroma glasses made for color blindness at Eataly NYC Downtown (101 Liberty St, New York, NY).

Eataly’s La Pizza & La Pasta has transformed its restaurant and menu through a colorful collaboration with Color Factory into A Colori. A portion of the proceeds from A Colori will be donated to EnChroma’s Color Accessibility Program to help provide EnChroma glasses to local New York libraries for color blind patrons to borrow.

One of the color blind participants is Bob Brown, a 55-year-old, retired NYC firefighter.

“When I was a child my parents bought me a Light Bright game and I couldn’t tell what the different colors were to play the game. My mother had to separate the colors in individual bags so I could play [them],” said Mr. Brown, who actually owned EnChroma glasses previously, but accidentally broke them five years ago and has been hoping to get another pair for years. “When I first tried them after about 20 minutes, I literally got very emotional. The flowers were amazing, the sky was spectacular, and all of the road signs made driving a pleasure.”
