Prima ballerina Diana Vishneva stars in the East Coast premiere of Diana Vishneva—Beauty in Motion, Feb 21–24 at New York City Center. The International ballet star will perform a program of new ballets created for her by three distinct choreographers: a new version of Pierrot Lunaire set to Arnold Schoenberg’s song cycle Pierrot Lunaire; Three Point Turn, set to a commissioned score for electronic and live percussion by David Rozenblatt; and a solo piece in three segments utilizing mirrors, black lights, and illusion to create transforming images of Woman.
Feb 7–10 at The Kitchen, the ever-evolving and unpredictable Australian dance company Chunky Move presents a revolutionary tour de force in Glow. Artistic Director Gideon Obarzanek and German interactive software engineer Frieder Weiss collaborate to create a solo piece in which the movements of the dancer create a kaleidoscope of light and animation through the use of pioneering motion tracking technology. Virtuosic execution, a sensual and grotesque harmony of human and digital gesture, reveals why this unconventional company remains on the cutting edge of modern dance.
