In Michigan, a local hair salon owner posted on Facebook that the salon will not be serving trans and non-binary people because she believes they are pedophiles.
Christine Geiger, the owner of Studio 8 Hair Lab, posted, “If a human identifies as anything other than a man/woman, please seek services at a local pet groomer. You are not welcome at this salon. Period.”
Geiger insists that it is her first amendment right to compare humans to animals and refuse to serve them. After the hateful post, the salon’s Facebook page was deleted, and its Instagram page was set to private, but the salon’s bio still states “A private CONSERVATIVE business that does not cater to woke ideologies.”
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill this past March that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. “We are not bound to any oaths as realtors are regarding discrimination,” Geiger wrote.
“I have no issues with LGB,” she added. “It’s the TQ+ that I’m not going to support.”
She continued, “For those that don’t know what the + is for, it’s for MAP (Minor Attracted Person aka: pedophile).”
Needless to say, the ‘+’ does not represent MAP, but that doesn’t stop the spread of misinformation and hate.
This post comes a few days after the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in support of a wedding website designer who refused to work with same-sex couples. While this decision undermines all attempts to prohibit discrimination, people flooded Geiger’s comments with disgusted responses.
“I’m speechless with how ridiculous your comment is right now. Please, for the sake of yourself and others, go educate yourself,” wrote one commenter.
“I am BEGGING YOU to PLEASE read a book and turn off Fox News,” another posted.
“For the love of all things, turn off the t.v, get off of YouTube and educate yourself. Spreading hate & gross misinformation is not a good look, girl,” responded somebody else.
