Corey and Jarrid were friends for five years before romantic sparks began to fly. One summer, the two reconnected and became pen pals, talking non-stop and waiting to get back to school to see each other again. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

Though the couple has flip-flopped on their thoughts around marriage, they see it for themselves in the future more and more. “The more in love we become and the more we understand that we can create the dynamics of what we want our marriage to look like, the more beautiful the idea of marriage becomes,” Jarrid said. “We want to have something unique and special for us but want to keep the individuality that made us fall in love with each other in the first place.”

The biggest challenge the duo has overcome together was getting to a place where they could both be fully vulnerable with one another. “Seeing each other for who we are and loving each other in such a full way makes compassion easy, but it is practicing compassion even when it doesn’t come reflexively that really makes our relationship thrive,” Corey said. “We have a saying that we half-jokingly remind each other of all the time: ‘Don’t forget to be kind.’”
