Cassie and Mary met at work, in a sense. The promoter and DJ, respectively, first connected at a party where Mary was spinning, back in 2008. Mutual friends had introduced them before, but it didn’t stick until that fateful night. This time, they hit it off, and found their relationship flourishing by being “secure and happy within ourselves,” Cassie explains. One of the hardest things for these two fixtures in the nightlife scene is bringing work home. “I think the biggest challenge is working in the same business,” Cassie says. “There are times Mary won’t listen to me as the promoter, and then there are times Mary will want to go over business and I’m just not in the mood,” she says with a laugh. “But at the end of the day, we know business has to be done, and we always make sure that we openly communicate with each other.” The common ground they’ve found is respect. “We always consider each other’s feelings.” Mary says her favorite thing about Cassie is “she’s always there for me and she’s a kitty.” Cassie, meanwhile, loves “that Mary doesn’t sweat the little things. She doesn’t make me feel guilty about who I am. She’s extremely secure with who she is, which I find very sexy.”
