Katie Ledecky Beat Her Own Olympic Record, Wins 8th Gold Medal

Once again Katie Ledecky proves she is absolutely untouchable. In the 1500 m freestyle swim, Ledecky beat the Olympic record (which was previously set by herself), winning the gold medal by 10 seconds. If you need more proof of how dominating she is, here is a list of who holds the top 20 times EVER in the 1500 m free:

USWNT Beats Australia 2-1, Moves On To Knockout Round

The US women’s soccer team is still on the road to redemption after their disappointing run at the Tokyo Olympics. Though they left with a bronze, the goal is always gold. Yesterday, the USWNT beat out Australia, a notably difficult team, to move on to the knockout round. Goals were made by Trinity Rodman and Korbin Albert, who became the first player to score a goal during their international debut at the Olympics. Albert made headlines four months ago for sharing anti-LGBTQIA+ videos on social media and subsequently apologizing. She says the “tough love” of their new coach, Emma Hayes, has strengthened the bond of the team.

Adriana Ruano Oliva Brings Home Guatemala’s First Ever Gold Medal, Sets Olympic Record

After sending only 16 participants to the Olympics, Guatemalan trap shooter Adriana Ruano Oliva secured the country’s first-ever gold medal. Not only that, she set the Olympic record, hitting 45 out of 50 targets. Ruano Oliva’s athletic career actually started in gymnastics. During her training to qualify for the London Olympics, she felt a pain in her back. An MRI revealed she had 6 damaged vertebrae, and her career was immediately over. Her doctor was the one who recommended she take up shooting to stay in sports, and here she is making history and representing her country with pride.

USA’s Evy Leibfarth Wins Bronze in Canoe Slolam

Evy Leibfarth, who has been coached by her father since she was a child, became the first woman to qualify for three different canoe and kayak events. Yesterday, she became an Olympic medalist coming in third place for the canoe slolam despite being in the lowest seed. If you’re not familiar with the canoe slolam, it’s an event where canoers must fight the currents to make it through targets. Some are straight through, while others required and full 360 turn, all while fighting the rough waters. The gold medal winner, Jessica Fox of Australia, became the most decorated canoe slalom athlete ever.

USA Women’s Water Polo Group B Team is Still in the Game

Flava Flav’s favorite women took to the pool yesterday for two nail-biting games to move on to gold. After the team lost in Group A, all eyes have been on Group B. Yesterday, Team USA defeated Italy 10-3 to move to 2-1 in group play with one match remaining. They’re currently in second place standings, following Spain by 3 points. USA has won 3 gold medals in a row, and they’re still making their way to a four-peat.
