A space to mingle, build meaningful inter-generational queer/trans friendships and community, and celebrate queer culture at Connect Queer!

Location: Sea & Soil, 102 President Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231

This group will run in-person on the last Tuesday of each month, 7:30-9 at Sea & Soil in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. It will be a drop-in space for queer/trans adults of all ages in Brooklyn to share takes on pieces of fun queer media (a Janelle Monae album! Queer Ultimatum! An episode of the Queer As Fact podcast!) and to forge meaningful connections with each other. Group sessions will include rounds of speed-friending, a discussion of that month’s piece of media, and a mutual aid go-round to offer or request support. Masks required (windowed masks available free); sandwich dinner from Sea & Soil available outside 7:15-7:30 PM. Space is wheelchair-accessible, though the bathroom is not.

The Culture Discussion: a link to the media we are discussion will be sent out when you buy your ticket, so buy in advance! That said, if you don’t have a chance to read/watch/listen to what we are discussing, you are still welcome to attend.

Paying with insurance: This is a community support group being run through a therapy practice. If you have Medicare (not Medicaid or Medicare Advantage), please email Fatima at fatima@soulwellnessnyc.com to register for the group through our client portal so that we can bill Medicare instead of you, and you will only be responsible for your co-pay. If you have another insurance with out-of-network benefits and would like superbills to submit for reimbursement, please also contact Fatima to arrange payment and paperwork through the client portal.

Intergenerational space: There will not be childcare, but if you would need to bring a child with you in order to attend and they can entertain themself, they are welcome–though discussion may include mature topics and language. Please indicate on the RSVP form if you will need to bring a child to attend.

A hope of this group is to connect queer and trans people of different generations, which often results in people using different language to describe themselves and people of other identities, which can cause discomfort. Please be prepared to speak for yourself and to respect how others would like to be described or referenced.

The participation fee for each group meeting is $50. The Medicare co-pay is likely only $5. There are low-income spots available for $25 and $5. Please pay according to your ability. 10% of proceeds will be donated to the Manna-hatta Fund (which supports the American Indian Community House) in acknowledgment of this group taking place on occupied Canarsie and Lenape Munsee land.
