The Very Best of NYC Art

New Photography 2011, Galeria, We Are A Museum! Celebration and Auction

The Museum of Modern Art announces the 26th annual New Photography 2011 exhibition, running now through Jan 16, 2012. This year, the exhibition expands to feature six artists. Moyra Davey’s mailed-photograph grids feature the stamps, postmarks, and return addresses that have accreted on each photograph, analog elements that are particularly unique in these digital times. Deana Lawson  explores issues of intimacy, sexuality, and community in her portraits of people made in their homes and personal environments.

Through Dec 14, Galeria at the Hombres Lounge continues its exhibition program dedicated to queer art by local, national and international artists working in various media. The monthly exhibitions explore issues that concern gay, lesbian and transgender peoples, communities and artists who identify as queer or work with LGBT topics. On view now through Nov 16, Qtopia focuses on the relationship between physical, imagined or virtual spaces where queer identity is created and nurtured. Positive Art, on view Nov 24-Dec 14, will bridge the gap between AIDS activism and HIV prevention as it happens in gay bars and clubs in major urban centers.

On Nov 10 join the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art for We Are A Museum! Celebration and Auction to benefit the institution. Enjoy an evening of art, and entertainment as the event showcases drawings, paintings and photographs by some of the best and most celebrated artists working in the erotic genre. Auction images are available for preview Nov 8, 9 and 10 from12-6pm and on the museum website.
