The Perfect Social Activist Quote For You, According To Your Zodiac Sign

July 23, 2018

Which social justice activist should you pull inspiration from?

Every sign in the zodiac serves a different position in transforming this world into something different. We’ve been left words from revolutionaries, community organizers, and domestic laborers who have fought against western supremacy, capitalist exploitation, and the subjugation of women. These activists serve as inspiration to us– but which one is most aligned with your zodiac sign?

Aries:

“The dream is real, my friends. The failure to realize it is the only unreality.” — Toni Cade Bambara

You’re the maker of dreams, Aries. Nested between dreamscape (Pisces) and reality (Taurus), you’re the bravery that takes the fantastical and makes it into hard, economic, social, and political reality. For you do to this, you’ll have to, as Bambara implores you to, forget the delusion of failure.

Taurus:

“We’d always been taught the idea that only someone who has studied, who has money, and who’s gone to the university can govern a country. They don’t educate us and they look down on the people, so we weren’t prepared to take power ourselves, despite the fact that, yes, we had made the revolution.” — Domitila B. De Chungara

Chungara wasn’t an academic. She spent her days standing her ground, demanding that workers own the mines they work in, and getting shot at repeatedly by those who had something to lose. Taurus, you don’t believe in bulls***. You’re not here to do anything but make revolution.

Gemini:

“Everything will change. The only question is growing up or decaying.” — Nikki Giovanni

This Gemini knows that the only thing you can be sure of is change. You control change, Gemini. You can use it to build yourself up or take yourself down. Use your powers to create the stuff that the entire universe is made of — variety.

Cancer:

“Movements are born of critical connections rather than critical mass.” — Grace Lee Boggs

As a Cancer, you know that movements are not made of numbers. They are made of stories. A statistic will never mean as much as a portrait of someone at their most vulnerable. It’s because you work this way, Cancer, that you’re able to make those around you stick together like glue.

Leo:

“Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.” — James Baldwin

Love has everything to do with fear because it has so much to do with courage. Leo, you know that love is the antithesis of fear. You know your fear and refuse to be held by it. It’s through this principle and your never-ending ability to love that you amaze us all.

Virgo:

“The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.” — Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi

You’ll never believe in the underwhelming power of one story, Virgo, because you have the uncanny ability to hold several tales of varying magnitudes in your head at once, and believe in and respect all of them. Tell your many stories, Virgo, and make room for contradiction, cynicism, and criticality all at once.

Libra:

“Every terrorist regime in the world uses isolation to break people’s spirits.” — bell hooks

It’s your connections to the life that the world is simply teeming with that make you feel truly alive, Libra. That’s your power. You can use that, always, to build and build and build. You have the ability to resist terror and to make everyone a little less afraid.

Scorpio:

“This is life — a thousand days dying, a thousand born, a thousand dying, a thousand reborn. This is life.” — Dolores Cacuango

Scorpio, you know that any life worth living must end in death. When you ask for change, you’re not just asking for change for one lifetime but for entire generations of living and dying. You understand that death creates this change. Knowing this, Scorpio, you, like Cacuango, know the things that truly matter.

Sagittarius:

“I have been enslaved, yet my spirit is unbound. I have been cast aside but I sparkle in darkness. I have been slain but live on in the river of history. I seek no conquest, no wealth, no power, no revenge. I see only discovery of the illimitable heights and depths of my own being.” — Rev. Pauli Murray

Sagittarius, you don’t care about status, about money, or about the things that the world can give you. Rather, you only want the things that you can take and make for yourself from the stuff of the world. This intrinsic quality will always free you when you need it.

Capricorn:

“I’m a dirt person. I trust the dirt. I don’t trust diamonds and gold.” — Eartha Kitt

You don’t just trust in anything that looks shiny, Capricorn. You believe in dirt because dirt holds the ingredients of life. You’ll never get swindled by illusions or false progressivism, Capricorn, because you’re always asking what the outcome is. Share that quality with the world and trust in your own great sense.

Aquarius:

“Revolution is not a onetime event.” — Audre Lorde

As an Aquarius, you know that revolution is just the perpetual turning of the world. It is necessary to turn day into night and winter into summer. You’re able to function using revolution as your rhythm, as your very heartbeat.

Pisces:

“We didn’t take no shit from nobody. We had nothing to lose. You all had rights, we had nothing to lose.” — Sylvia Riviera

As the last sign, Pisces, you remind us that, when we go to the grave, we can take nothing with us. It’s when we have nothing that we can possibly lose that we begin to find ourselves. When we have nothing, we become brave, compassionate, and finally full of love.
