Ruth Nasca was a unique and prolific artist, a sampling of whose work will be shown at SK Art Enterprise, 38 West 28th St., 2nd floor, New York, NY. The opening will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The exhibition will continue until September 12, 2019, with the art available for viewing by appointment.

Ruth’s art cannot be easily categorized. It is expressive, bold, edgy and provocative. She had a unique style of drawing and painting, applying color in a loose and free manner, often mixing the colors directly on the surface. Her work includes an extensive range of subject matter, such as relationships, sex, current events, general and art history, pop culture and travel. Whether Ruth painted over found movie posters, “vinyl veils”, hinged Masonite or Plexiglas, there is always more than meets the eye. Ruth’s paintings defy our expectations. Ruth’s work needs to be experienced!

Born in Buffalo, NY in 1929, Ruth lived in East Hampton, NY from 1988 until her death in 2018. She started making art at the age of 13. Her education includes having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Buffalo and Albright Art School, and a Master of Art Education, S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. She was taught by some of the masters of the 20th century, including Willem de Kooning, Philip Guston and Ben Shahn. When she was about 30, and making abstract paintings, she asked herself, “What’s important to me?” The answer was “People”, so she started making pictures of people. She created art almost every day for over 70 years, because she had to.

Her work has been in over 100 one-person and group shows in the Hamptons, Long Island, Buffalo and New York City. Ruth has won numerous top prizes and awards. One of her paintings is part of the permanent collection of Guild Hall, East Hampton, New York.
