New York Cares, the largest volunteer network in the city, will host its 2021 annual gala, celebrating the dedicated volunteers, donors, partners and staff who are working to bridge societal gaps—food access, isolation, and educational inequities on Tuesday, November 9. The gala will be held virtually this year through a livestream. The online reception will begin at 6:45 PM and the program will begin at 7:00 PM at the Online Virtual Gala.

Audrey Puente, FOX 5 Meteorologist will emcee the virtual gala. Renowned photographer Mark Seliger, will be honored with the inaugural Equity Through the Arts Award for his Impact of Photography program, a new social-emotional learning program that teaches children photography at PS 330 Q in Central Queens. Video highlights of New York Cares’ work during the pandemic will be played, as well as interviews with partners, volunteers and staff.

After seventeen extraordinary years, Gary Bagley is stepping down from his position as Executive Director at New York Cares. Special programming at the gala will pay tribute to Gary and his selfless commitment to New York Cares’ mission.

In 2020, more than 42,000 New Yorkers made the city a better place by volunteering in New York Cares programs at nearly 800 nonprofits and schools – improving education, meeting immediate needs, and revitalizing public spaces. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, New York Cares volunteers have delivered more than 50 million meals to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, which is ten times the amount of any year before.
