Grammy-nominated as part of Heritage Blues Orchestra, Chaney Sims is a home-grown musician who has delighted audiences around the world, and now debuts her new, eclectic program of songs at Joe’s Pub. Drawing on the traditions of old school soul, blues, folk, and work songs, and incorporating a sprinkling of her own compositions, Chaney interprets them all through her lens as a as a queer woman of color and unequivocally proves that her artistry and experiences are deeply entwined. Ms. Sims will kick off a new chapter of performing with a tapestry of her sultry voice, inspiring verses and passionate spoken word found in Heart Strings. About Chaney Sims

Ms. Sims is from Queens, NYC and was raised listening to R&B, Soul, Blues, Jazz, and Worksongs. Steeped in these musical traditions, Chaney is dedicated to sharing their significance and revamping classics to tell her story. In 2013, Chaney was nominated for a GRAMMY award, as well as two Blues Music Awards, with the Heritage Blues Orchestra for their debut album, And Still I Rise, an international collaboration that honors African-American roots music. She has also received an Award of Distinction from the Fresh Fruit Festival for her performance in tribute to LGBTQ Jazz greats at Joe’s Pub. Chaney is honored to perform at venues around the world and to share the stage with amazing artists who incite and inspire, including Staceyann Chin, Phylicia Rashad, Keb’ Mo’, Selah Sue, Ruthie Foster, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, recording legend Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Guy Davis, and the late Odetta.
